See, my birthday was last week, and my husband let me visit three yarn shops!

To compensate for all the yarny goodness I brought home, I did some destashing.

I made a tuffet with Patons Classic Merino in black and Yarn Bee Dream Girl in Rebekah. Total g: 369.96. Here it is, post-felting, with cat:

I made a dishcloth using LionBrand MicroSpun (which is amazingly soft once washed). Total g: 52.45.

I also made a Forest Canopy Shawl, using 181.44g of worsted weight Malabrigo in Oceanus. I haven't blocked it yet, and I'm waiting to do that before I take pictures. I'm trying to figure out how to block it without the cats getting to it.

Total knitted: 654.9g

Grand total for Chicago: 1785.5g.

I've got 3 things OTN, but none will be finished by the start of the race.

I managed 3 more afghan squares this week (one green, two blue). I sent a skein of Caron Simply Soft with the green squares (not to be used with them, however--might look a bit off). I'd bought another skein of the sage green, not realizing I already had one. Oops. (Shhh! Don't tell my husband! We made a special trip just to get that skein!)

Grand total for the Pepsi 400 was 246.16.

NASCAR Socks!

Thanks to Ravelry, I have been a mite busy with reorganizing my stash. Sunday July 1st, was the NASCAR Nextel Cup Loudon race, and as soon as we were seated, I cast on for my buddy Paul. I am calling them Uncle Pauly's Socks, but just realized that maybe they should be called "Checkered Flag Marls" instead! I used 2 cakes of Classic Elite's Inca Alpaca in the Nightingale colorway. They are now awaiting his arrival when he comes to visit his Mother for her birthday. I do hope he likes them.

And for you Tony Stewart fans, I give you this:

So, for the Toyota/Save Mart 350, I did one lil' afghan square in a sort of lime green (Plymouth Encore again). A whopping 25.1g.

For the Lenox Industrial Tools 300, I did 2 more of the lime green squares, which totaled 50.2g. A couple of dishcloths in two different kinds of cotton. One was Peaches & Creme, & weighed 39.69g. The other was in a lighter, thinner cotton (the label's gone, so I'm not sure what it is, other than blue) and weighed 24.1g. I also knit a section of a baby blanket. It's one of those things where someone starts it and sends it to someone else, who knits a bit & sends it on to the next person, etc. I was the last person to knit on it before it sending it back to the original person for finishing, washing & donating. I used Caron Simply Soft in dark sage. I weighed the skein before and after I started knitting (seemed easier than trying to fold up the blankie & put it on the scale). I used 35.44g of yarn for my portion.

I also sent 2 skeins of the Simply Soft to the woman who started the blankie--340.19g.

So the totaly for the Lenox Tools 300 was 490.44g. A bit more respectable. :)

I've got pics, but need to find where I put the cord to the camera. I think it's buried under some yarn!

OK, I'm a dingbat. But I'm suspecting y'all knew that.

I'd planned on sending the box to F.I.R.E., but then accepted a challenge to knit at least 1 or 2 more items. So I did 3 (2 adult, 1 child, all hats). Once they were finished, washed & blocked, I boxed them. The box is sealed.

I forgot to take pictures!! DOH!!

The never-ending baby blanket finally came to an end!! 400g of Bernat Satin!!

And I knit a hat (adult size) out of the pink Cascade 220 superwash. 82.21g.

(This is the pre-washed/blocked hat. It fits my fat (22 1/2") head.)

This afternoon will be spent packing stuff to send out. And waiting for the track to dry...

Now that the company's gone & the house is (more or less) back to normal...

I've got stuff for Darlington. Zilch for Charlotte. I'm still working on the never-ending baby blanket (and I doubt that will be done before the start of the race on Sunday to get it to count).

I made a baby hat with the last of the Cascade Eco, totaling 56.7 g. (Same pattern as most of the other baby hats.)

Two baby hats with Rowan Spray, using Norma's Dulaan pattern, 100 g each. I didn't have enough yarn (only one skein of each color) to make them as long as she did, which is why they're baby hats & not toddler hats.

One child's hat with Rowan Big Wool, also using Norma's pattern, 141.75g.

And four squares for the Hokie Healing Blankets from Patons Rumor. That yarn is so soft!!! Total of 145g.

Grand total: 543.45g.

Light blue is the Talladega hat. Middle row: Cascade Eco stuff (two Richmond; one Darlington). Back row: Rowan stuff.

Hokie squares. Yeah, a couple of them were a little larger, but two of them came out perfectly.

I got quite a bit (for me) done this week. Here are a hat made from a merino/silk/cashmere blend (super soft), a lacy baby tank top made from a cotton/wool blend, and a pair of toeless (for pedicures) ankle socks from an angora/wool blend (also super soft). I have since run out of yarn on these, which kind of sucks, since the whole point of them was to use up this one skein of yarn. So they may not be long for this world, but we'll see.

Crazy race this week, huh?

Mother's Day Knitting Points....

Well I racked up some FO knitting points this week. 3 pairs of Fuzzy feet at 100 grams a piece (don't have a picture of one because I gave them to hubbo's grandmother before I took a picture).

Also there were 6 dishcloths made this week for Mother's Day gifts. Don't have pictures either. I forgot and then gave them away. Those are roughly at 50 grams a piece.

3 Pairs of fuzzy feet at 100g a piece = 300

6 washcloths at 50g a piece = 300

Total grams - 600 for Darlington.

I haven't posted in a while because I haven't had much to post! With the move and everything else going on, there's not been much knitting progress, but things are slowing down and this week I knit quite a bit!

I knit 145 g worth of yarn on the Back-to-School U-neck Vest:

I don't recall if this was this week or maybe last week since everything has run together over the last few weeks, so I'll count it this week. I finished sock number 1 of Monkey socks, which is 35 g of yarn:

I watched all of the race this week, too, and I was finally able to "pick the winner"! Though for a while I didn't think that Jeff Gordon would win, I'm glad he did :o)

Darlington

We've had some issues with our internet connection. They *seem* to be fixed now. Or at least, until the cable goes out again!

That said, here are my totals for Talladega & Richmond. I'll try to get pics soon.

Talladega was just so pathetic. One wee baby hat, for the baby of a friend's sister-in-law. Done in Bernat Satin, it's a whopping 46.76g.

Richmond was better. Both items were knit double with Cascade Eco +. It knits up nicely. My only quibble was that it seemed to fray in parts (when I wound it, it broke). I had to felt it together b/c it broke while I was knitting (in one place). I still have some left--maybe enough for another baby hat.

I'm working on a baby blanket in Bernat Satin (same baby mentioned above). I have no idea if it'll be done for Darlington.

I finished a pair of Baby Jaywalkers this week, and that's about it. Multiple forces conspired to keep me from knitting: my daughter's birthday party, a yard sale, tons of lab reports to correct, etc.

Oh well - I hope you guys had a good week of knitting, and enjoyed the race! The Jeff Gordon / Jimmie Johnson fans in my house are sure having a good year!

Here are the FOs from last week - two knit stockingcaps (reversible - in Brown Sheep worsted, Elsabeth Lavold AL, and/or Loft) and one pair of two-needle mittens (in Brown Sheep worsted). All headed out for afghans4Afghans.

My drivers are not doing well in the Cup series and my hockey players are not doing well in the Stanley Cup series.

But the weather is nice. I've started reading the Harry Potter series (again). And I'm working on a rug. (THAT should garner me some mileage points!)

Well this week was all about afghan blocks - big change for me from socks. In the picture are 2 KAL's, 2 test blocks, and 10 afghans squares which will go in the mail soon.

I used 50 gr. each on the two last week, so I would guess that the 12 used 600 grams. Since this sounds too high to me, I won't count the yarn used for the two KAL's and that should make it a more correct total.

Still have no idea how many points for an afghan square or for the race total, so will have to leave that up to you.

Have more camo/tan squares to make to add to the box being shipped, so that will probably be this week's project.

I've got pics, and totals for this past week's race.

Knitted this week:

Another snuggle in Caron Perfect Match--170g.
Baby hat in Cascade 220 Superwash--52.45g.
Baby hat in Cascade 22o Superwash--63.79.
(These 3 were knit double.)

Felted pincushion with some leftover Catalina Chunky Baby Alpaca/Merino (yeah, I *thought* it was all gone). Now, if just the pincushion is counted, it's 28.35g. But I stuffed it with yarn scraps. That weight is 77.96g. I'll go with whichever weight y'all want. Without the stuffing, my total is 314.59g. With the stuffing, it's 364.2.

This is the second half, including today's post. I love that pink Cascade! The funky looking green thing is the pincushion. You can sort of make out the tapestry needle stuck in it.

Things are getting back to normal here, which is making me very very very happy! Now, if I could only find where that other size 7 needle went to...

Rain, rain - hold off for a minute

I just spent over an hour trying to sign in here, the storm is moving in fast, so not going to take time to upload the picture for this week (if you have seen one sock you have seen them all), my computer almost always locks up in the storm, so really trying to hurry here as I may not be back on for a week.

This week (I will admit I slept through the race) - I am really screwed up with the Sat race - convinced myself it was Sun and then realized that Mon was now Sun and when I finally got that straight ------- well, you get the picture. It must be old age - this retirement business is for the birds - when you don't have to get up to go to work, the days all run together.

Anyway, I finished another pair of socks which have been mailed off for the birthday present. I changed my mind at the last minute, kept one of the pairs I was sending and knit another color combination. Six pairs of socks in that package, I don't really know that the color of the last pair is all that important, but maybe she will wear them. Anyway, that would be 100 gr. of yarn and 25 for finishing. I finished them Sun, no Sat :-)

I have also completed four squares for an afghan that will be mailed out. By the weight on the full skein I finished and the partial for the last square, I used 200 grams. Seems high, but I only got the three squares out of a new skein, maybe it is just because I am so use to fingering weight. I have no idea on the points for the four squares - probably 10, but just guessing.

Does anyone have the list of what we get points for so I don't have to keep asking. If it is in the file section, forget it, nothing opens for me there.

Just read this again and it sounds like I am in a bad mood, I'm really not, just trying to hurry. The phone lines go the minute it starts to rain here and that will cut off my computer - even if my computer doesn't lock up like it usually does.

Baby Kimono
Here are 4 of the 8 slipped stitch dishcloths that I made over the past week. I will say that I gave these 4 away and then the other 4 not pictured were sold at my MIL's mother's quilt shop.

Also not pictured is a pair of fuzzy feet that were a replacement pair for my husband's great grandmother that is 100.

Well after two weeks of ZERO knitting, I finally have points. I calculated the FO's for 538.640 grams, or 19 ounces.

How did I finish this much stuff? Jury duty on Monday and then standardized testing in which I don't do much teaching. I don't have pictures of everything (I gave away some and sold a few), but here are the ones I have.

My smallest amount yet!! 150g!!

I used 100g of the alpaca/merino for a small hat (used double). It was the last of that yarn (I'd bought 4 hanks of it ages ago).

While packing for our move, I found a scarf I started at the beginning of Feb. that got buried under other yarn purchases. It needed the next skein attached, so I did. And *finally* finished it. I'm only counting the one skein (50g of Mmmmmalabrigo) since I started it before this KAL.

I haven't found the cord for the camera yet, so sorry, no pics! It's here somewhere...

On the bright side, we're mostly in the new house (the big furniture comes Monday). The cats are adapting, and I didn't have to pack the contents of the fridge. Well, I sort of packed 'em...into the garbage! We were without power for two days--knitting by candlelight doesn't really work for me. (And is yet another reason for my paltry total. ) I'm looking forward to getting my stash organized in the new house. :)

a couple weeks of knitting

This post is a little late, but . . .

I'm glad there were two weeks between races, because I didn't get a lot done this week. Last week I did a bit of destashing - two 4oz skeins of vintage Lion Brand wool to a friend (4oz = 117g, unless I did the math way wrong), and a 150g skein of acrylic that I brought to school for use in a pendulum experiment and I have no intention of bringing home (does that count as destashing?). For knitting, I completed two hats, a baby sock, and a to-be-felted slipper. My camera is broken so there aren't any pictures at the moment. I'd estimate the total weight at about 580g, destashing included. Holy crap, I think I actually made it!

SOCKS, Socks and more socks

Somehow I can't seem to get away from making socks. I made (well finished) six pair - the large maroon ones are the birthday socks from He** and I finally finished them. The yellow were started before and left in the box (can't see myself wearing them) and when the temp dropped, they looked better and better for bed socks.

Anyway, the sock total for yarn used would be 700 grams and for finished socks would be another 150 points, I believe.

I sent a box of yarn to Jeanie Townsend as she requested donations and that was 1,750 grams.

I also received an envelope of yarn for my birthday - that totaled 500 grams, but I don't think we get credit for that.

I think I also have a race total in there also. I can't open the file and I can't find what we get totals for, so I am just guessing here. If you could add this mess up for me and come up with a total I would really appreciate it

Back to knitting - guess what - SOCKS.

I didn't score tickets and I didn't even get to watch the race. I had to go to a wedding. Who in their right mind would schedule their wedding on race day!?!?! Crazy people!

I didn't have the pleasure of being at the speedway or taking these pics, as I was huddled in my 4x3 closet with my boyfriend, dog, and mini-tv, because of the last photo. There wasn't even enough room for knitting!

No points for me this week. Didn't finish anything, although I did add another skein of yarn to the men's scarf I'm knitting! It's a really light yarn, though, and at best a sportweight size, which adds up to lots of knitting for not many points.

I donated a full XXL size Zip-lock bag (I HEART THESE STORAGE BAGS!) (about seven pounds of yarn) - beautiful yarn - Mt. Colors Bearfoot - Araucania Nature Wool - D'Zined wool/mohair/hemp worsted and sports weight - Frog Tree alpaca - and others that I have blocked from memory. For two good causes: 1) "Live simply so that others may simply live." and 2) the prisoner support group. That's about 3175 grams, which seems outlandish to count, but there you have it.

I did do some knitting, too. I finished another 2-headed hat (what I call the reversible stocking cap). I also have not credited myself with the Irish hiking scarf and baby blanket. I'll bring them all in this week, weigh and picture them for next week's race. (That's okay, isn't it? I don't think I'm breaking any rules or offending anyone. If so, tell me and I won't count them. Not a problem!)

This week I didn't get much knitted. I did manage to finish a pair of ankle socks:

Total of 40 grams used up in this pair of socks. I know last week I included them in my total, so I don't know if I get the full 40 gram points or just the 10 grams I knit this week. Either way, I didn't knit much!

Hopefully this week I will have knit a little more.

PS: I'm so lame... I missed the end of the race!! I ended up being dragged out to the grocery store :o(

Not a whole lot of productive knitting this week, I'm afraid. I started on a pair of socks for my almost-one-year-old daughter, a pair of toe-up Baby Jaywalker socks. These are my first toe-up socks and my first with a stitch pattern instead of plain stockinette. So I had to frog a couple times, and I ended up finishing a grand total of one baby sock. A whole week for a teeny tiny sock! It's pretty cute, though:

A relatively quiet week

Only one hat this week--a pretty green stockinette cap in Catalina Chunky (60% baby alpaca/40% merino). This was the green that I used in the ribbed hat a couple of weeks ago. Total g used for this hat: 85.04.

A burp cloth (using one of the M/D patterns) in Peaches & Creme baby green. 70.87g. There will be more baby-related knitting in the months to come. And it's not for me. Not yet, anyway ;)

A snuggle for the Snuggles Project in Caron Perfect Match, knit double to make it cushier (is cushier a word? or should it be more cushy?). It's 16" x 16" approximately, and weighs 177.18g. I was blown away at how quickly this knitted up. I've got another skein of this floating around. Now I know what to do with it. And there's an organization in town that accepts them, so once I finish some more (and wash 'em) I can take them there.

Total g used this week: 333.09. Pics will be up later.

Hello Ladies!
I am back and still recovering from the blissful trip to NYC for the Yarn Harlot's book launch of "Stephanie Casts Off" which is an extremely funny book. I at least should share a quick photo with you as a tease.

Actually I started with 5 signed (click on the photo to see Stephanie's signature!) books, and am now down to 2. Out of these 2, one is going to go to the knitter with the most points after the halfway point of the season. How's that for incentive??

Two hats done - 425 grams of alpaca!

I finished two hats this last week. 15 ounces of alpaca! They are lined/reversible stocking caps with big fold up brims. Going to either Dulaan or Afghans for Afghanistan. Probably afghans since I've got a couple of boxes of Dulaan stuff ready to go except for the washing. And drying. I have to figure out a new way to dry things since I no longer have a bathtub! (I used to stretch the sweater dryers across the tub.) I think the solution will involve a screen or screendoor suspended over benches in the back yard.

15 ounces! that's 425 grams. still losing ground, but I'm trying! (I'm so old school - I didn't hear the end of the race and when I heard BUSH WINS! I thought Kevin.)

Smart alack that I am, I did the full leg and then realized that I was off a stitch and the pattern just wasn't correct or even liveable, so it went to the frog pond and I started over again. I knew I probably wouldn't finish them and I didn't - not in time anyway, I will finish them.

As they are sitting on my table now, I am well down the foot of both, but another pattern was calling out to me, so since I have time before I have to get them in the mail, I started those. I'll have at least both pair finished by this coming weekend, maybe more.

I don't know about you, but I got (almost) raced out this weekend. Qualifying was repeated on Fri. and I must admit I fell asleep on the fourth time through. Then Sat there was qualifying and the race with both repeated, plus the Indy race in the evening. Then Sun there was NASCAR. Must admit it did make the weekend more fun. Maybe that is way I didn't get all the knitting done - too busy watching the cars go round and round.

Finally! A Finished Race!!

This week was a huge destashing week. I cleaned out and organized my craft room, which led to selling some items. I even have a computer monitor with speakers, scanner, and printer that need a home (or homes). That is how cluttered my craft room had gotten.

I even started and finished a teenie project. I had a little bit of some NOT-fun-fur left over from my first sweater that finally spoke to me. My dollies needed a novelty scarf, and that is what they got... One, 8 gram novelty scarf. That is all that I had enough for.

This week's knitting was all socks - one pair for each of my sons.

Both were pretty small, especially the black ones, because my 9-year-old requested ankle socks. Honestly, the total was probably less than even 100g.

I hope everybody enjoyed the race - I know my household is always excited when it's a Bristol week. Congrats to Kyle Busch!

Oh, and Kimberly, it was really cool to hear you on It's a Purl, Man. It sounded like you guys had a great day.

Well, if it all counts, that is...

Done this week:

Hats! Have we got hats!! Two in Malabrigo Chunky (I loved it so much that I made one to keep). These were the same weight: 80.05g. The headband was 28.35 (was the only thing I could think of with that tiny bit left over). The blue is Debbie Bliss Merino DK (used double) for 70.87g. The pink is Misti Alpaca (also used double) for 77.8g. The middle bottom is Noro Silk Garden--56.7g.

I gifted my little sister a skein of Noro & the teeny bit left over from the hat. She sewed up a baby sweater for me. (Me + Seaming + PMS = One Incredibly Irritating & Frustrating Experience.) Total gift: 64.17g

See that cute lil' pompom on that pink hat? I bought a pompom maker. Before trying it out on the good stuff, I made some practice ones using leftover Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran (from that baby sweater my sister sewed together for me). Here's an ounce (28.35g) of pompoms:

The top one was the first, and it's really rather weedy. I popped these into a ziplock with some catnip and PRESTO! Instant cat toys!

The Husband reminded me that we have 8 cats, and I really wasn't being fair to the others. So, during the pre-race show, I made 3 more (after all, that first one is rather pathetic). I used the even teensier bit of chunky Malabrigo and some acrylic Caron that's floating around. Another 28.35g. (yay for heavier yarn!)

This week I finished a pair of socks from Blue Moon Fiber Arts Socks That Rock yarn. I knit the Yarrow Ribbed sock from Nancy Bush's Knitting Vintage Socks. This used up 100 grams of yarn (have a bit left over).

I finished the first sock of a pair of ankle socks and started the second using up about 30 grams of yarn:

I also started a scarf, which I don't have a photo of, using up another 20 grams of yarn. So, for this week I have a total of 150 grams knit up. Hopefully next week I'll have some more yarn used up!

What a race today! I always love the races at Bristol. Way to go Kyle Busch for winning!

I at least finished another pair of socks (bet that is a surprise). Only have one more pair to finish for the birthday, but they are a BIG pair, so working on them.

These are the Tidal Wave pattern done in Trekking XXL. They took the full, and I mean full, 100 grams of yarn. Even had to cut the toe a little short to get them both out of the skein as I couldn't see ordering a skein for just a few rows.

Guess I only get 125 points for this week, maybe I'll do better next week.

Two Jimmie Johnson wins in a row - my husband is quite pleased. And smug. And maybe a little annoying.

But anyway . . . I did get a pretty good amount of knitting (for me) done this week, including during the race, although I'm not sure what week that counts for. All my amounts are estimated - I need to get one of those little drug dealer, I mean, kitchen scales.
The tea rose halter from the latest issue of Interweave Knits is finished except for the crochet-chain straps. It used just over two 200g skeins of Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece, and about half of it was knit this week. I also made a pair of pedicure socks (my first socks!) using about 100g of Wool-ease. And finally, I made a cotton baby tank top using one skein of yarn for which I lost the ball band. I'm guessing it was 100g. Pictures for all these will be on my blog hopefully by tonight.
I did purchase a little bit of yarn: one 200g skein of Rowan Spun Chunky wool. All the local yarn stores keep having clearance sales! And extending them for multiple weeks!
So, to do my estimated math, that's 300g of knitting, minus 200g of yarn-buying. Not even close!

I have an FO for this week. It's a Panta that's being gifted to someone:

I also sent a bunch of yarn off to someone. I don't have a photo of what I sent, but I sent 6 skeins of Knit Pick's Crayon (50 g each), 2 skeins of Malabrigo Uruguay (100 g each), and 1 really large skein of sock yarn (150 g), for a total of 650 grams of yarn given away!

Two weeks ago I ordered yarn for a sweater - 20 skeins Rowan RYC Silk Wool DK, 50 g each (1000 g) - and it arrived on Saturday.

In total, I knited and gave away a total of 700 g of yarn :o)

Hi girls! So sorry I've been a bit MIA. I've had pictures from last Saturday for points last week and then I have pictures for this week. We've had some family illness issues and although I've been knitting, I haven't had a lot of computer time.

For the weeks between California and Las Vegas i was a bit slack in my knitting. I used 176 grams for the mitered squares.

I have also started teaching some 4th and 5th grade male students of mine how to finger knit. I've been using this as an opportunity to stashbust. This is approximately 429 grams of yarn that was donated to the boys.

Total yarn used from California to Las Vegas - 605 grams.

Ok, now this week's progress...

Some of the 5th grade girls at school wanted to get into the finger knitting, so I took this bunch to school and wound it into balls. I weighed it on the meat scale and it was 435 grams.

I added 11 more squares this week = 200 grams
1/2 of a #8 dishcloth = 25 gramsFinished cape for Miss Em - this week: 45 grams used.

I am on Spring Break this week so hopefully I'll be able to get myself together a bit and be more organized!

Since I did not finish the pair until Monday morning, I will have to count them for this past Sunday's race. I do have Daytona's race statistics already tallied, and will upload the file later today. Now, here is the first bit of incentive for getting rid of that stash. I will be awarding this amazingly soft yarn to the person with the most points by this Friday. And no, I am not racin' but I am Grand Marshall. ;)

Hats, sort of

I wanted to make a child's hat. I looked/tried several different patterns. Since I'm sending them to the Dulaan Project, I'm knitting 'em double stranded to make them extra warm.

Could NOT get the first one to work right. I thought I'd try a variation on a couple of patterns, knitting in garter, then a modified seed stitch (K1, P1 for a row, K next row, P1, K1 for the row after). Maybe it really does have a name. I don't know. It looked cute. But I don't think it will work as a hat. I thought about frogging (again), but the start of the yarn was starting to fray :(

So now, it's a bowl. Non-felted (it's superwash merino), but I'll use it to hold stuff on my bureau. Oh, it's Laines Du Nord. I don't think I'll buy it again. (I think I know now why they stuck it in the clearance bin!)

I'm much happier with the second. Your basic stockinette roll-brim hat, in Trendsetter Yarns Tonalita. I'd never heard of it, but I really liked it. I'll try to get pics up later this week.

I am sure it took me longer to figure out how to post and post a picture than it took me to knit one of the socks - but I think I have it all under control - at least till next week.

Didn't finish the two pair of socks till late last night - the races were toooo good to miss and since I have to look at what I am knitting, I just had to put the knitting down for the race.

The large socks are for my SIL and they are huge. Made in the Monkey pattern (have since discovered there is another pattern called the Monkey pattern - will have to make those next) using Regia Surprise Color and Phildar. They used 150 grams (close to it anyway with only a few yards left over).

The bright socks (wish I could get a picture that really shows how LOUD they are, are made from Regia Mini Ringel (color has been discontinued, wish I could get lots more of it) and the pattern is Jeanie Townsand's Michigan Cherry pattern. There is also the solid red which is Phildar Preface. They used 100 grams.

This should add 250 grams and 50 points for a finish (300) to my total (at least I think that is correct - boy trying to sign into Google really has me messed up - must be my age, I use to be able to handle things like this when I was younger).

I plan to send the picture to Jeanie as I am sure she never, in her wildest dreams saw her pattern looking like these socks. I love them and just hope I get up the nerve to wear them - in public!!!

Wish Mark Martin had won - maybe next time.

This week has been so crazy for me at work, that I haven't even posted on my main blog, let alone get everyone's stats done here. I see lots of fierce competing in getting points, and hope to figure a prettier way of showing them off besides my spreadsheet. If all else fails, I will try to upload the overall points in the Yahoo! Groups database and have the file available for downloading too.

Anyone here in Sock Madness or in Secret Pal 10? Both would be a great way to get some destashing done!

DeStash for Points!

I am knitting - a tiny baby blanket and a larger afghan, but have nothing to show for points.

HOWEVER! Last Tuesday night at KnitWits I did some early destashing. I shared two XXL ziplock storage bags of yarn, ranging from various acrylics to organic cottons to RioGrande rug wool. In my haste, I did not weigh them before I took them to the meeting, thinking that I'd ask the ladies to write down the grams of each ball they took. Big mistake. Not every skein of yarn was still with its paper; not everyone could find where the weight was on the yarn wrappers. So - we did an estimate of how much yarn was in the two bags (did I mention XXL storage bags?). (All the yarn was taken - leftovers went with Bambi to the prison outreach group.) The informed guesstimates ranged from 5 pounds to 150 pounds. I thought there was about 10 pounds. At any rate, I'll gladly settle for the 5 pound estimate. wow. That's more than 2200 grams. Destashing is infinitely easier than knitting! Be forewarned that I'm making one more giant destash meeting next week, then it's knitting the rest of the way. (I'm moving and don't want to have to move the yarn. again.)

I failed to read the pattern before I bought most of the yarn. I thought I needed the regular Peaches & Creme...not realizing the pattern calls for the double worsted. *sigh*

I've ordered the correct yarn (and in colors I'd prefer). Anyone interested in a couple of cones in ecru? It's not worth the hassle of returning them to Wallyworld (that, and I no longer have the receipt). Let me know, and they can be yours!!

I'm knitting furiously (or trying to, anyway) so I can catch up before Sunday's race.

I've managed to finish a neckwarmer (177g) using a skein (and a smidge of another) of the Wool-Ease Thick & Quick and a headband/earwarmer using a leftover partial skein (about an ounce; was 35 g knitted up) of the regular Wool-Ease. Pics are in the middle of this post. I'm working on a hat with the other T&Q skein. I was almost done, when I realized (during decreasing) that I was looking at the wrong pattern!! *sigh*

Just wanted to pop in & say hi!

The Husband & I live in western NC with our herd of 8 cats, my yarn, his CD collection and our books.

I started knitting just over a year ago. One of my former co-workers taught me. We'd often sit and knit together in the staff lunchroom. I'm not particularly fast or advanced, but for the most part, I really like it. (You just don't want to be around when I'm trying to figure out something new...pity my poor husband!)

My husband's been a NASCAR fan for years (Jarrett's been his favorite driver for the last 10 or so, but he's long-time Richard Petty fan). You can read about my conversion here. My husband thinks I now spend more time watching racing shows than he does. I also bought Pit Road Pets a few weeks ago, which helped me add to my favorite drivers list. (My other faves are Tony Stewart, Dale Jr. and Mark Martin.)

I'll stop typing now. But I do want to thank y'all for inviting me to join in the fun!

Hi y'all! I just wanted to introduce myself first. I'm Rachel, but also known as the Procrastiknitter. I'm just now coming back to NASCAR. I watched it religiously with my grandfather when I was a kid in the 80's and early 90's. Once I left for college I stopped watching. Last year I started watching with the first Talladega race and was hooked again. It didn't hurt that I moved from Nebraska where racing is not all that popular to Oklahoma where the 2nd question people ask you after "What's your name?" is "Who is your favorite driver?". LOL. Well my personal favs are Jr (#8) and Mark Martin. I also like Tony, Jimmy, and Matt Kenseth. This week my progress I think put me over the edge with point hopefully. I had these two chemo caps which ended up being about 40 grams each (double stranded).

Then these are a little piddly project for my girls which ended up being 4.5 grams a set of flip-flops.

I gave this vintage wool to a friend who was eyeing it. It was 400 grams. I had to use for it at the time and I'm needing to stash bust.

I finished 12 squares between races at roughly 8.5 grams a square.

I also worked 10 grams on this cape for my oldest daughter.

So for last week's knitting/gifting I ended up with 611 grams of my stash used. I did not buy any yarn this week.

I'm very excited to see what everyone does in the next 2 weeks before Vegas!

Hi everybody -
I am a knitter in a house full of obsessed NASCAR fans. My boys are big fans of Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon (the kids are 6 and 8, so their favorites were picked completely arbitrarily - "Hey, look, that car says Home Depot! That one has flames!"), and I think my husband would leave me for Jimmie Johnson if he could. I'm not a huge fan but I do enjoy sitting with the guys and knitting while they watch the race. They get so excited it makes it a lot of fun. Full disclosure - I am a pretty slow knitter, I have to take frequent breaks to tend my baby daughter (a future NASCAR fan, I'm sure), and I don't really have enough stash where I'd be selling any of it, so I won't be winning any prizes. However, I saw the name "NASCAR knitters" and I knew I had to get involved.

3 Pairs of Socks during Daytona Week!

Hi All!
Here are Sue's finished objects. Unless I took time off of work, I don't think I could do as much knitting for 3 pairs of socks!

Details from Sue:
The socks are left to right:

Regia Line Step with Phildar cuffs, heels, and toes. I used the Monkey pattern - just love that pattern. These socks used partial skeins, but the total would be about 100 grams as they are adult size. Started Daytona weekend and finished on Monday.

Regia Surprise Color in the Six Sense pattern. These used all but a tiny bit (like 3 yards) of a 100 gram skein. Started Monday and finished on Thursday.

Couldn't let the remaining Regia from the Line Steps just sit there, so made a pair with Phildar cuffs and feet and again used at least 100 grams. Started last Thursday and finished during the race on Sunday.

Have another pair on the needles and again using the Monkey pattern. Not sure when I will finish them as they are a large adult and I don't have the amount of time I had last week.

So, I guess that would come to 300 points for the yarn and 75 for 3 finished pairs of adult socks.

Okay, before I forget my own rules, I better post what I have done so far. Granted since I am the one giving away the prizes, I don't qualify to win but I still want to play. I officially knit one sock. Happily it was knit out of BartlettMills yarn - a wonderful worsted weight - and I used two colors, which I think might have added a little weight. This brings me to an astounding two ounces (weighed on the postal scale next door). This translates to about 56 grams. I'll take it!

I have been watching NASCAR for about ten years. I remember actually sitting down an watching the Indie 500 for the entire race -- and watching the guy who was obviously going to win -- lose because he ran out of gas on the last lap. I come from a long line of 'they're just racing around in a circle - what's so interesting about that?' I am learning more and more how false that statement is!

In the meantime, I am moving and will not have cable TV. To get myself ready for this transition, I have already found an MRN radio station (KFAL, 900AM), and have been listening to the races. It's another world, Race Fans, but I will learn how to listen!

Oh! And I generally watch Ken Schrader since when I started watching, he was driving the M&Ms car (38). I have gotten a little tired of the front row drivers, so I now tend to pick my car by the sponsor, like M&Ms, Tide, etc. If only we could get sponsors like Mountain Colors, BartlettYarns, and Noro!!!

Nascar and Knitting...

My name is RaAnn and I have been a Nascar fan for just over 22 years. I became a fan when I saw my first race with my "then" betrothed. Now, nearly 22 years later I am still in love with both my wonderful husband and Nascar.

I learned to knit about 12+ years ago and I have been knitting ever since. I love to watch the races and knit. It is both exciting and rewarding to see how much I can get done during the course of the race.

My favorite drivers are Ken Schrader, Matt Kenseth, Carl Edwards and just recently Jeff Gordon. I was fortunate enough to be at the Dayton 500 in 1999 and watched Jeff Gordon win. I list him as my favorites as long as he "plays fair". I do not care for the drivers who are arrogant or who have those "better than you" attitudes.

So, What have I knitted recently? Using a kitchen scale I have the following info:

Week 1, Daytona 500 (Total for this week: 390):
Tasseled Lace Bookmark (my own pattern) Lionbrand Microspun, - 20gm
Fur Fun Bookmark (my own pattern) Fun fur and Crochet Cotton #10 - 10gm
Baby Hat (my own patern) Mainstay Worst Weight - 50gm
Baby Booties (my own pattern) Mainstay Worst Weight - 30gm
Gave away Caron Simply Soft- purple 170 gm & Lace Weight Yarn 110 gm

Week 2, Auto Club 500 (Potenital: 907 gms): My Driver Won!!! Matt won this race...do we get points for that too? lol

Started a striped Baby Blanket (my own pattern) for my soon-to-be nephew and hope to have it done by the next one. This is using Mainstay Yarn. Two one-pound skeins equaling 906 gms when finished. Of course I will weight it again at that point. =)

Hey Everybody...My name is Robin and I'm from SW VA, for those who know me I'm the crazy chick from The Knittin' Coop! I live closest to Martinsville Speedway (about an hour away)...I'm a life long racing fan! My favorite driver is Junior, I'm a lifetime Earnhardt fan but grew up in a Petty household! Pre-1979 I guess I was a Petty fan!

I'm not going to post all the pics of my FO's for the week just one picture and (ta-da~) the list! I seriously need to purchase a kitchen scale...so Kimberly some of the things I'm going to guess at the amount used!
So this weeks fiber totals and FO's are as follows:
Item: Baby Booties - IK pattern (of course I altered the pattern)
Yarn used and amount: Plymouth Dreambaby approx. 72 yds (I'm guessing about 20-25 grams?)

Item: Cabled Headband - Chick Knits Pattern
Yarn used and amount: Handspun North Ronaldsay approx. 85 yds (I'm guessing again...about 25 grams?)

Item: Felted Bunny - Fiber Trends Pattern
Yarn used and amount: 100% wool (from the stash...no label) 250 yds used. (yet again..guessing...about 125 grams?)

Item: Tea Cozy - Fiber Trends Pattern
Yarn used and amount: Sensations Bellezza Collection (purchased at JoAnn Fabrics~from my stash) Wool/Cotton blend approx. 75 gms or 150 yds. (this happens to be a pretty amazing yarn considering where it came from)

Now...the yarn I purchased (snowbunny~I also bought some roving at the same time but it hasn't arrived yet~from Scout) was prior to this beginning so I hope I won't get penalized for it! However...will roving be counted? I'm leaving on Thursday for a Spinners Retreat...where the temptation will get the best of me!!

More Details on Getting (and Losing) Points

Goal:
To earn the most points at the end of the 9-month NASCAR Nextel Cup season

When:
From the weekend's race warcry of "Start your engines" to the next race's "Start your engines" (As an example I'm using the period from Daytona 500 to California's 500).

How to Get points:
1) For every gram used in an FO done that week, a point is given (I actually finished a baby blanket that is just over 500 grams).
2) 75 bonus points are given when that Sunday's race of ### miles (Say the Daytona 500 counts as 500 grams) is met (I get an additional 75 points).
3) Giving away or selling yarn counts toward the week's goal (I had sold 700 grams of my stash last week. All count as points).
4) Gift or swapped yarn does not merit "bad" or negative points so consider that an "even Steven" (I gave 350 grams in exchange of 100 grams at a yarn swap).
5) Buying yarn DOES NOT take away points (I bought 700 grams for my Arwen Cardigan before the California race began yesterday!).
6) Additional points are awarded for FO's depending on the item (baby socks at 5 points to adult socks at 25 points; mittens and gloves fall under the same points as socks; stuffed toys are 15 points; bookmarks, charity squares, and washcloths are at 5 points to full-sized shawls at 35 points; blankets are 50 points; baby/dog sweaters at 15 points to adult sweaters at 50).
7) Additional points are awarded for FO's depending on the level of difficulty (stranded, steeks, lace, entrelac, and cables add 10 points each, so if you make something with all of them, then that would give you 50 points).

How to show points:
1) Using the pattern's material list, a food/postal scale to weigh the FO, or adding the total number of grams on the yarn labels, get a total number of grams used.
2) Post details (Pattern name with yarn amount, etc. A photo would be great!) about your FO preferably on the blog along with the total number of (sold/given-away/bought) grams by the Tuesday after the week's run (Before tomorrow, I need to post my stats on my Daytona week of the 500g blanket, the 700g sell, and the 700g buy).

Total points will be shared on the NASCAR Knitters' Yahoo! Groups database section. This will be updated by the Thursday after the completed week's points. (Guess I better get a move on for the Daytona points!)

Allow me to introduce myself. I am Heather and I am a Nascar fan. I'm a 27 year old casual fan (as opposed to mega-fan) from Texas. I am blessed to live within an hour an our of the lovely Texas Motor Speedway.

I really enjoy knitting while watching the races, plus it gives me time to relax on Sunday.

I do have to admit, I have brought my knitting to a race. Has anyone else done this??

Start... Your... Engines!!

With the Daytona 500, I have kicked off a friendly season-long competition among NASCAR knitters and anyone else who is interested in playing. The Rules are as follows:

* Whatever miles are raced in Nextel Cup that weekend, so is the goal of the equivalent number of grams be used before the next race. (Daytona 500 = 500 grams before the Auto Club 500 at Fontana) Added 02/20th: 400-500 grams would be a LOT of week in a week, so just keep gathering up those points. :)

* By “used” I mean knitting, crocheting, spinning, sewing, selling, and gifting (Swaps are our friends!). These “miles/grams” are also points towards prizes.

* Throughout the 9-month racing season (which ends in November), there will be bonus points given to each completed project applicable in size/weight/complexity. (a finished “Forest Path Stole” is greater than a full-sized Clapotis which is more than the “My So-Called Scarf” project. Added 02/20th: I am working on a chart to cover everything from socks to sweaters.

* Due to the allowance of other De-stash KALs to get more yarn, no penalties will be given if yarn is acquired at any time.

* Sporadically, prizes will be awarded to those with the highest point count. That means GIVE-AWAYS!!

* Admittedly, this KAL is my first, so please bear with me if I have to add or adjust the rules to clear up any confused borders.
